It starts when the author of this website, Ivo Hendrix, came in charge as a High Performance Manager in the Flemish Athletics Federation (Belgium) in 2006. He designed new performance standards based on the performance development of a significant sample of internationally succesful athletes. The standards were linked to generic World Athletics and to European Athletics seasonal Top Lists, to keep them dynamic and actual.
These standards proved to be very effective to identify athletes with a high probability to obtain future success at Major Championships. After Ivo Hendrix left his position in 2012 to concentrate again on his activity as an athletics coach, he continued to investigate on different types of performance patterns in international athletics. They can be found in the other sections of this website.
In 2020 a major review of the initial performance standards was carried out. The year by year performance development of the full population of EAA-athletes that were Top 8 placers at World Championships and Olympic Games in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 served as a solid base. As a result of the analysis of these trajectories of development a more detailed and a more reliable model of performance standards was designed. That model has been validated and continues to be validated and updated if there is evidence to do so. This new and innovative model can be found in the section Performance Standards.
Thanks to the European Athletics Association who invited Ivo Hendrix to present his new model of Performance Standards in Athletics in a webinar on November, 18th 2022, this model and more interesting data will be brought to larger audiences across Europe.
